Two Ways Into the Studio
Classes or Membership
Firebox offers two ways to join the studio. Classes provide structured instruction and scheduled access. Membership provides ongoing, self-directed access for people ready to work safely and independently.

Start with a class if you are new to clay, want regular instruction, or are still developing independent studio habits.
Apply for membership if you can already manage your own workflow, clean safely, use shared equipment responsibly, and work without continuous instruction.
Membership, Simply
One Studio. One Membership.
Every Firebox member receives the same core studio access. Longer prepaid terms may reduce the effective monthly price, but they do not determine what equipment, materials, or processes a member is qualified to use.
Every membership includes: studio workspace, member storage, use of shared equipment, access to the house glaze library, and access to standard studio firing.
Clay is purchased separately by the bag. Members may buy approved studio clay or bring approved outside clay bodies. Firing is also charged separately according to the amount and type of work fired.
Studio Workspace
Use wheel-throwing and handbuilding areas during published member access hours.
Member Storage
Dedicated shelf space for work in progress, tools, and approved materials.
Clay Options
Purchase approved studio clay by the bag, or bring an outside clay body after it has been reviewed and approved for Firebox firing temperatures and studio processes.
Glaze Access
Use the Firebox house glaze library. Additional personal glazes may be introduced after documented testing and studio approval.
Shared Equipment
Access to wheels, handbuilding tables, slab equipment, studio tools, and other shared resources after any required training.
Standard Firing
Bisque and glaze firing through the standard studio schedule, charged according to published firing rates.

Advanced Practice
Access That Develops With Your Work
Some materials, processes, and firing arrangements require additional testing, training, documentation, or studio approval. These are not separate membership tiers. They are advanced-practice privileges available when the work and the member are ready.
Outside Clay Bodies
Members may bring clay purchased outside Firebox after the body has been identified, documented, and tested for compatibility with studio firing temperatures and processes.
Additional Glazes
Members may introduce glazes beyond the Firebox house library after documented testing confirms their composition, firing range, surface behavior, and kiln-shelf safety.
Large Work
Oversized work may be accepted by prior approval, based on kiln capacity, drying requirements, handling risk, and the volume occupied during firing.
Slip Casting
Slip-casting access may be approved after relevant training and confirmation that molds, slips, cleanup, and storage can be managed safely.
Dedicated Kiln Loads
Members producing a compatible body of work may request a dedicated or batch kiln load, subject to kiln availability, scheduling, and firing requirements.
Custom Firing Schedules
Nonstandard firing schedules may be considered after technical review and may require a dedicated kiln load and additional firing charges.
Markets and Sales
Members may become eligible for shared market tables, seasonal studio sales, community events, and other Firebox-organized opportunities.
Process Development
Members developing new materials or workflows may work with the studio to establish testing, documentation, and safe operating procedures.
Advanced-practice access is not automatic. Approval depends on demonstrated competence, appropriate testing or training, complete documentation, available storage and kiln capacity, and compliance with studio safety policies.

Submitting this form does not begin a membership or create a charge. Approved applicants will receive next steps for orientation, payment, and a confirmed start date.

Approved applicants complete any required orientation or skills review.

Membership is not a substitute for instruction. Firebox may recommend a class, orientation, or skills assessment before approval.
Application
Submission does not guarantee approval or reserve a membership place. Firebox may request additional information, an orientation, or a skills assessment.
Billing
What Happens After Approval
Calendar-Month Membership
The first month may be prorated from the approved start date through the final day of that month.
Beginning with the next calendar month, membership renews automatically on the first and provides access through the final day of that month. Ongoing monthly fees are billed in full and are not prorated.
