Membership
Make Work on Your Own Time
24/7 studio access, dedicated workspace, professional equipment, and a community of working ceramicists. Membership at Firebox is for people ready to sustain and grow an independent practice.
What You Get
Every Membership Includes
Every Firebox member receives the same core access regardless of term length. Commitment tiers affect your monthly rate and gallery display time — not what equipment, materials, or processes you can use.
24/7 Studio Access
Work whenever it fits your life. Studio D is open around the clock, seven days a week, with quiet hours from 10 PM to 6 AM. Individual access code for the duration of your membership.
Dedicated Workspace
Studio D is your home base — a dedicated member workspace with 6 pottery wheels, a slab roller, and handbuilding surfaces. 11 additional wheels in Studio A are available whenever class is not in session.
Pottery Wheels
17 wheels across the studio — a mix of Brent CXC and Shimpo Whisper VL. Six in Studio D, eleven in Studio A. First-come, first-served — no reservation system, no session limits.
Member Storage
A dedicated shelf (4 ft × 18 in × 12 in, approximately 6 cu ft) for work in progress, tools, and approved materials.
Handbuilding & Slab Equipment
Slab roller, extruder, stainless work tables, and handbuilding tools in shared studio areas.
House Glaze Library
Full access to Firebox house glazes, all formulated for food-safe use at cone 6. Personal glazes may be introduced after documented testing and approval.
Firing
Cone 6 electric bisque and glaze firing, charged separately at $3/lb of bisque ware. Refiring $5/piece. Dry your work on your shelf, place bone-dry greenware on the community firing shelf.
Selling Your Work
Work you make is your property. Sell it however you choose. Gallery shelf space is also available for purchase, and Firebox can sell on your behalf for a studio commission. Gallery details.
Day Pass
One complimentary day pass included with every membership for returning to glaze and pick up work after your term ends. Additional passes available at $25 each.
Develop Your Practice
Access That Grows With Your Work
Membership is not just studio access — it's a platform for developing your voice as a ceramicist. Some privileges open as your competence and commitment develop.
Outside Clay Bodies
Members may bring clay purchased outside Firebox after the body has been identified, documented, and tested for compatibility with studio firing temperatures and processes.
Additional Glazes
Members may introduce glazes beyond the house library after documented testing confirms composition, firing range, surface behavior, and kiln-shelf safety.
Teach at Firebox
Members who have developed expertise in specific techniques or processes may apply to teach paid intensives or workshops on a case-by-case basis.
Gallery & Markets
Six-month members earn 14 rent-free gallery shelf days per term; twelve-month members earn 28. All members may rent additional gallery space and become eligible for shared market tables, seasonal studio sales, and Firebox-organized selling opportunities.
Large Work
Oversized work may be accepted by prior approval, based on kiln capacity, drying, handling, and scheduling. Large-work firing may be priced by kiln volume rather than per pound.
Dedicated Kiln Loads
Members producing a compatible body of work may request a dedicated or batch kiln load, subject to availability, scheduling, and firing requirements.
Custom Firing Schedules
Nonstandard firing schedules may be considered after technical review and may require a dedicated kiln load and additional firing charges.
Process Development
Members developing new materials or workflows may work with the studio to establish testing, documentation, and safe operating procedures.
Advanced-practice access is not automatic. Approval depends on demonstrated competence, appropriate testing or training, complete documentation, available storage and kiln capacity, and compliance with studio safety policies.

Early termination. Cancelling before a commitment term ends incurs a one-month fee at your current rate. Month-to-month members cancel anytime with no additional charges.
Gallery. Six-month members receive 14 days of rent-free gallery shelf (7 per quarter). Twelve-month members receive 28 days (7 per quarter). Unused days do not carry over. All members and non-members may also rent gallery shelf space at the standard rate. A studio commission applies to all gallery sales. See Gallery for rates and hours.
Additional costs. Clay is purchased separately at cost, estimated $20–$25 per 25 lb bag. Firing is $3 per pound of bisque ware (covers bisque and glaze firing). Refiring is $5 per piece. All Firebox house glazes are food-safe at cone 6 and included with membership.
Capacity. Memberships are offered in intakes of 25. If the current intake is full, you will be placed on a waitlist and notified when the next intake opens.
Studio Life
More Than a Workspace
Firebox is a shared studio, not a rental. You'll work alongside other committed ceramicists, share kiln loads, and be part of a community that takes the work seriously.
Monthly potluck. A regular gathering for members to share food, see each other's work, and stay connected outside of individual studio time. Details announced after opening.
Gallery. Show and sell your work through the Firebox gallery. Six-month members earn 14 rent-free shelf days; twelve-month members earn 28. All members can rent additional gallery space at the standard rate.
Teach. Members with developed expertise may apply to teach paid intensives and workshops at Firebox — building a teaching practice alongside their studio practice.
